In today’s world it’s so easy to become stuck in a routine and focus on the tasks at hand. We wake up, prepare the kids for school, go to work, to come home do it all over again. It begins to feel a constant loop of tasks and chores we need to take care of and the list never ends.
If you are finding yourself stuck in this loop it can be really difficult to try and break the cycle or even know where to start.
Prioritize time for each other
While we all have a routine, such as school and work we can easily forget to check in with each other. A great tip can be to set dedicated time in the diary whether its once a week or a month to ensure you remove the regular routine and spend some quality time together.
We always recommend spending more time outside. Especially in the warmer months where the weather is much more forgivable. This will give you space as family away from screens that cause us constant distraction throughout the week.
Getting more outdoors as well gives you the added benefit from a health perspective where you can enjoy some fresh air and likely a little bit of added exercise.
What activities should you do?
During this time of reconnecting you should focus on activities that require communication with each other and have you working as a team. These can be things such as activity camps where you work on a series of tasks together and spend the week or weekend switched off from technology and your regular routine. Other activities you can do are things such as an adventure day, this can be tackling new activities that get the adrenaline flowing such as a high ropes course, or maybe its travelling to the coast or woods for a hike. All activities such as this where you are required to connect in a fun setting will help break up the daily stresses of everyday life.
The benefits of reconnecting with yourself
As much as all these activities and time will help you reconnect with your family unit, it will also help you reconnect with yourself. Finding activities that bring you joy and allow you to embrace your own inner thoughts will help make you more open to receive the emotions of those around you. We all hear the advice of going for a walk to clear your mind but don’t be afraid to take on more daring activities solo to get your mind flowing.
Find what works best for you but make sure you begin to prioritize solo headspace for yourself and your family away from screens to really reconnect and check in emotionally on one another.
