The key to a fun and exciting stay in the wilderness? Come prepared. Coming to camp with kit that will keep you dry, warm, hydrated, comfortable and all the other things you want to feel when on an adventure is essential.
While there are plenty of things you can bring to our woodland activity camps to have the best stay possible, we want to highlight five items to bring that will result in a happy and healthy stay.
Did you know you should drink between 1.2 and 1.5 litres of water a day? Staying hydrated and refreshed is especially important when you’re spending time being active outdoors – even more so on a sunny day. Taking a water bottle with you when your out and about at camp is the best way you can ensure you’ll stay hydrated.
While water from bottles is encouraged, water from the sky is another matter. Out in the wilderness you are open to the elements and getting cold from a rain shower is a real risk. Being prepared with waterproofs (a jacket is essential, trousers are a bonus) will put an end to rain-misery and allows you to continue your activities whatever the weather. And as an added extra, rain coats are also great to shield you from wind!
Getting a good nights sleep is a must for all keen wilderness explorers. It helps keep your mind sharper, makes you happier and puts you in the best position to tackle the adventures ahead. A comfortable sleep is achieved with a warm and cosy sleeping bag.
It gets dark at night in the forest. Without street lamps, building lights and only the stars and the moon for visibility, a torch comes in very handy. Camping in the forest means there are more potential obstacles on the ground than at home – tree roots, tent pegs and hedgehogs can all be identified and avoided with the beam from a torch.
Spending the day exploring and challenging yourself in the natural environment means spending time away from base camp. When you’re away it’s important you have everything you might need to tackle the day, including a hat, sunscreen and our number 1 item – your water bottle.
A visit to Camp Wilderness should be a fun and exciting experience for whoever visits, whether its an outdoor family adventure or a keen young explorer coming solo, bringing the right kit is the best way to ensure a successful stay.
