How do children take Camp Wilderness to school with them?

Module Code: content-paragraph

As we prepare for the holiday season, you’re probably thinking of what to get your kids or even your grandchildren for Christmas, right? A new LEGO® set or a PlayStation 5 might keep them entertained for the holidays, but what if you could get them something that would last a lifetime and benefit their education?

Camp Wilderness is more than just a holiday. It’s even more than an adventure holiday, it’s an opportunity for your children (and the rest of the family if you dare 😉) to gain a whole host of skills that they can take back to school with them.

So, as well as coming back with a week’s worth of muddy clothes and smiles on their faces, what do your children take back to school with them after attending a Camp Wilderness residential adventure?

Increased concentration

Whilst screen-time can be incredibly useful for schoolwork, entertainment and socialising, there are also some negatives. TikTok is one of the most popular apps amongst teens right now, but it has been proven that ‘watching TikTok for long periods of time can negatively affect your short-term memory, attention and concentration’.

Now we’re not saying to not let your kids use the app, instead, we’re offering a counter measure.
At Camp Wilderness, your children will take part in plenty of activities that help increase their concentration. Not only has it been proven that being outside, in the fresh air, can provide mental stimulation for better concentration, but with hands-on activities like fire lighting, archery and trap making (among others), your children will get a visceral reminder of how good patience and concentration can be.

New friendships

Strong and lasting friendships are essential to anyone’s wellbeing, but they also serve an important purpose within education. Being able to develop relationships and work together with others on new tasks and projects is a skill that will enable your children to excel in group projects, assignments, or assessments.

Camp Wilderness offers kids new challenges every day they’re on camp, meaning that there’s a level playing field for the kids to bond over. As they tackle these new challenges, they’ll learn to work with people from different backgrounds, different ages, and different families, helping them to develop strong friendships.

The lessons they learn from these friendships are something they can take back to school with them.

Greater confidence and problem-solving techniques

Confidence and resilience are important for children of any age in school. They’re learning and aren’t going to get everything right on the first try, but having self-confidence in themselves to learn from these mistakes and the resilience to try again means that they’ll ‘accept that failure is a part of life and take more chances as a result – which makes them even more successful later in life.’

However, in school settings it can be quite frustrating to fail. Students feel as though they should understand but often struggle to.

Camp Wilderness is an adventure holiday chock full of new experiences. While on camp your children take part in activities that help build their confidence and independence, tackling challenges they never have before and looking at problems in a new way. Having never tried a lot of these challenges before, your kids may struggle at first, but our expert staff are on hand to help coach them through to the solution.

This kind of confidence and independent critical thinking helps students with research and certainty in their work. They will be more willing to do things like put their hand up in class and put forward ideas during group projects.
This holiday season give your children an experience outside of the classroom that they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.
