We’ve all been waiting for spring. Spring is a wonderful time of the year when nature awakens from its long winter slumber. The warmer weather and longer days offer an excellent opportunity to explore the great outdoors with your children. One fun way to engage and educate them is to play Spring Nature Spot Bingo.
Spring Nature Spot Bingo is a game that encourages children to observe the natural world around them and learn about the changing season. Here’s how it’s played:
Create Bingo Cards
Create bingo cards by drawing a 5×5 grid on a piece of paper or cardstock. In each box, write the name of an object or animal that can be found in nature during spring. Some examples include: cherry blossoms, bees, ladybugs, new leaves, grass, and baby animals.
Explain the Rules
Give each child a bingo card and a pencil. Explain the rules of the game: the first person to mark five boxes in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins. However, to mark a box, the child must spot the corresponding item in nature.
Head Outside
Head outside and start looking for the objects listed on the bingo cards. Encourage your child to observe the natural world and appreciate the beauty of spring. You can make it a competition, or work together as a team to spot as many items as possible.
Make It Educational
Take advantage of the opportunity to educate your child about each item they spot. For example, if they spot a bee, you can talk about how important they are for pollination. If they spot a new leaf, you can talk about photosynthesis and how plants make their own food.
