May is National Teen Self Esteem month. This is a time dedicated to looking at the challenges young adults face in adolescence and opening up the topic of mental health for discussion, helping them to grow and supporting them through the constant changes they’re facing.
As teenagers navigate the challenges of adolescence, it’s important for them to have opportunities to build self-esteem and confidence. One way to do this is by getting outside and exploring nature. Outdoor experiences can provide a sense of accomplishment and self-efficacy that can positively impact a child’s sense of self-worth.
At Camp Wilderness, we offer camps specifically designed to help teens build self-esteem through outdoor adventures. Our camps provide a unique opportunity for young people to connect with nature, learn new skills, and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
“Through our camps, we strive to empower teenagers to step out of their comfort zones and take on new challenges, while providing a safe and supportive environment for them to build confidence, develop social skills, and connect with nature. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the positive impact these experiences have on their self-esteem and overall well-being.” said Jancis Dunn our Brand Manager. “They learn skills such as fire lighting, shelter-building, and outdoor cooking, on our woodland camps and, on our Mountain Adventure camps they will get the chance to hike up mountains, climb rock faces and scramble up waterfalls, all of which will encourage confidence building and allow them to build in self-esteem. Our camps also provide opportunities for teamwork and collaboration, which can help teens develop social skills and build positive relationships with others.”
In addition to building self-esteem, getting outside and exploring nature can have a positive impact on mental health. Studies have shown that spending time in nature can reduce stress, improve mood, and increase feelings of happiness and well-being. Our camps offer a chance for teens to unplug from technology and connect with the natural world, which can be a refreshing break from the pressures of daily life.
At Camp Wilderness, we strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for teens to build confidence, work on teamwork and develop social skill which all have an impact on self-esteem through outdoor adventure. We believe that every young person has the potential to thrive in the outdoors, and we’re excited to be a part of their journey.
We invite you to explore our camps and see how we can help your teen thrive.
