What to pack for a camping trip

What to pack for a camping trip

What’s better than a camping trip with your little ones? We believe that nothing beats sleeping under the stars and enjoying the great outdoors to the fullest. However, preparation is key and there are a few essentials we never leave home without.

We’re Muddy Puddles, children’s outerwear experts. Our mission is to inspire and enable thousands of children and families to enjoy the natural world around them and spend more time outdoors whatever the weather.

We are delighted to have partnered with the brilliant Camp Wilderness and are very happy to share our ultimate camping checklist to make your life a bit easier!

A good tent

It goes without saying – a good, comfortable tent is a must unless you decide to rent a cottage. We always choose a larger one where we can easily stand up and have some extra space for luggage. For a good nights sleep (and to avoid grumpy faces in the morning), make sure to bring proper sleeping bags, pillows and good quality inflatable air beds.

The right kit

We firmly believe that there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong kit! We know that the British weather can be unpredictable, so we always make sure to pop a waterproof and breathable jacket in our luggage. It’s perfect for keeping the brave explorers warm and dry whatever the weather – really important as campfire evenings in August can be surprisingly chilly! We always have a pair of waterproof trousers handy in case the little ones decide to wade in water or mud. Also, a pair of puddle-proof wellies is always on top of our list to keep those little feet dry and cosy when some serious puddle-splashing is involved!

Outdoor games

We never leave home without a couple of fun family outdoor games. Badminton, rounders or Twister are great and easy to transport. They’re perfect for keeping children entertained and, to be honest, who doesn’t like playing frisbee when it’s nice and sunny outside?

Healthy snacks

We always pack loads of healthy snacks such as nuts, dark chocolate and dried fruit to keep us and the little ones going. Bringing a cooler bag is a great idea – no one wants their chocolate to melt in the glorious summer sun!

Camping stove

A small camping stove for making a hot drink or preparing a nice breakfast or dinner is always on our list. Who doesn’t love a cuppa when it gets chilly in the evening? We travel with a simple, portable camping stove, a small camping kettle and a couple of non-stick pans. Here's to minimalist summer cooking!

We’d love to know what’s on your ultimate camping checklist! Leave us a comment below.

As #wildsummer2018 approaches, we are talking about why encouraging your children to ‘unplug’, (that is, to step away from the brightly coloured world of apps, games and TV programmes) and play outdoors is so important for your children.
